Observing Botox & Filler Injections
While in Austin over the holidays, I took a day trip to Dallas to visit my friend and favorite plastic surgeon Dr. Jesse Smith. I had the pleasure of shadowing Dr. Smith for the afternoon and what fun I had and I learned so much!
I planned on just a lunch visit and staying a bit in the new clinic, but I was pleasantly surprised when Dr. Smith asked two of his patients if I could observe (he explained I was an esthetician and instructor from California to learn a few tips!) Dr. Smith did injections of Botox and Sculptra while I observed; I can tell that he is also a teacher/faculty, as he explained each step and muscle in the face.
I just loved this process of watching, listening, learning and talking with his patients about their previous treatments and skin concerns -- his patients are the best and they adore him -- his technique and character. I also got to interact a bit with Kayla, Dr. Smith's esthetician -- she a compassionate young lady who is great with patients -- she just has the natural nurturing demeanor.
I was fortunate to meet Dr. Smith a few years ago when he was practicing in Santa Barbara. Not only is he a phenomenal doctor, he is from a very small town in Texas, which I think, contributes to his sincerity. I had such a great afternoon with the doc and Kayla -- Thanks for letting me be the student; it was a nice break from teaching!
